Floyd council approves routine finance items, appoints Chamber nominee to TDC and proclaims America 250 celebration

At the May 7 meeting the Floyd Town Council approved several routine items on the consent and manager reports.
The council approved a renewal of a Carter Bank & Trust certificate of deposit described at just over $147,000 at a 3.1% rate for four months. Councilman Chris Bower moved to approve the renewal and the motion passed on roll call.
Town Manager Andrew Morris said the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce requested that Jenny Moonen of Moonlight Manor replace Karin Grosshans as its representative on the Tourism Development Council (TDC). Councilman Bruce Turner moved to appoint Moonen; the motion passed on roll call. Morris noted the TDC appointment has no term limit.
Town Clerk Lynn Gregory presented a proclamation from the Floyd Court House Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution marking America 250; Vice Mayor Chris Bond moved to approve the proclamation and the council adopted it by roll call vote.
The council also reviewed plans for America 250 events: the Chamber reserved Warren G. Lineberry Park for a 5K Run for Freedom and Floyd County High School plans a celebration. Town Manager Morris advised that Virginia Tourism Corporation grant opportunities exist but require matching funds and do not accept in‑kind matches.
The council recessed at 6:40 p.m. to reconvene May 19 for the Donnkenny site visit.
