Fincastle advances CDBG planning; Revitalization Team adds regional rep and eyes façade grants, streetscape

The Fincastle Town Council heard updates Aug. 8 on the town’s CDBG revitalization planning and associated community projects.
Town Manager Melanie McFadyen said the Revitalization Team is meeting monthly to keep the planning timeline on track so the town can submit a competitive implementation grant in March 2025. McFadyen reported the team has identified nine buildings that may qualify for façade grants and is discussing how owner contributions, town funds and grant match will be shared.
Bryan Hill, representing the Roanoke Valley–Alleghany Regional Commission, joined the revitalization team; the minutes say Hill brings expertise in housing and transportation. Other items under consideration for the next grant include pedestrian-friendly streetscape work around the courthouse square, signage, a mobile food truck park and draft design guidelines that will be made available to the public on request.
Officials also announced the town’s Aug. 31 evening events, including fireworks and the trail opening at the gazebo; the VFW will sell food and an email invitation will be sent with event details.
