Floyd Council holds closed session on public contract and adopts certification
Summary
The Floyd Town Council entered a closed session under Virginia law to discuss the award of a public contract, later adopted a certification resolution stating only the exempted matters were discussed, and adjourned the meeting at 6:43 p.m.
At its Feb. 5 meeting the Floyd Town Council voted to enter a closed session to discuss the award of a public contract under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Mayor Will Griffin read the statutory authority for the closed session and the council voted to go into closed session.
After the closed session the council voted to return to open session and unanimously adopted a certification resolution stating that, to the best of each member's knowledge, only public-business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were heard, discussed or considered and that those matters matched the motion authorizing the closed meeting. The resolution expressly referenced compliance with Section 2.2-3711, Paragraph A.3 and Section 2.2-3712 of the Code of Virginia.
The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
