Floyd Council reappoints Vice Mayor Chris Bond; adjusts June–July meeting dates

The Floyd Town Council on Jan. 6 reappointed Vice Mayor Chris Bond for the 2026 term and approved a temporary change to the town’s June and July meeting dates.
Councilman Bruce Turner nominated and moved to reappoint Chris Bond as vice mayor; Councilman Chris Bower seconded. The reappointment passed on a roll call in which Councilman Chris Bower, Councilman Bruce Turner and Mayor Griffin voted yes and Vice Mayor Chris Bond abstained from the vote.
Town Manager Andrew Morris proposed moving the June and July meetings to the first and third Wednesdays of those months—June 3 and 17 and July 1 and 15—to avoid conflicts with the Small Town Summer event. After discussion the council, on a motion by Councilman Bruce Turner seconded by Councilman Chris Bower, approved continuing the regular 1st and 3rd Thursday schedule at 5:30 p.m. with the exception that meetings in June and July will be held on the proposed Wednesdays; the roll call vote was unanimous.
The council also voted to enter a closed session to interview Ms. Lisa Thompson for a possible council appointment, citing Code of Virginia §2.2-3711 A.1, which permits interviews of prospective public officers in closed session. The council later voted to come out of closed session and read a certification resolution required under Section 2.2-3712 of the Code of Virginia confirming that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed.
Other routine business at the meeting included approval of the Dec. 18, 2025 minutes by unanimous vote. No citizen comments were recorded.
The council did not disclose the content of the closed session interview in the public record during the meeting.
