At its Aug. 1 meeting the Lexington 2 Board of Trustees recorded the following formal actions.
• Policy KEC (public concerns and complaints about instructional resources): Trustee Miss Rucker moved to table the proposed revision and asked administration to align a revised draft with State Board regulation; motion carried.
• Waiver requests to the State Board of Education: The board authorized administration to submit (1) a waiver concerning teacher daily student‑load/preparation limits and related regulations and (2) a waiver to implement a credit‑by‑exam system allowing up to 12 credits by assessment (proposed 75% minimum). Both motions were approved and recorded as carried; State Department and State Board approval are required before waivers take effect.
• Overnight out‑of‑state student travel: The board approved BC High School Chorus travel to Pigeon Forge, Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., March 13–17, 2025. Trustees noted an estimated trip cost of about $41,032 and said student fundraising and boosters are expected to help cover expenses.
• Executive session outcomes (personnel and tuition waivers): The board approved administration's personnel recommendations and multiple candidate appointments (assistant principals, district special‑education coordinator, athletic director and teacher) and approved four student tuition waivers for admission to Lexington 2. One athletic‑director appointment was explicitly recorded as carrying 4–3.
Each of these actions will generate follow‑up tasks: administration will prepare and submit waiver materials to the State Department of Education, develop required assessments and security plans for the credit‑by‑exam proposal, present any exam‑based course offerings to the board for approval, and complete personnel onboarding.
