Lexington 2 board approves safety-drill and instructional-resource policy updates, several travel and personnel items

The Lexington 2 Board of Trustees unanimously approved revisions to policy EBCB (safety drills and plans) and agreed to follow the state template for KEC (public concerns and complaints about instructional resources) during its Aug. 15 meeting.

A board member made the motion to approve first and second readings of the EBCB revisions; a friendly amendment clarifying the monthly self-assessment language was accepted before the board voted to carry the motion unanimously. The superintendent and policy drafters told the board the administrative rule text was redundant with the state’s online options and that removing the district-specific administrative rule would align local practice with the state template.

The board also approved several routine travel and student trip requests. It authorized an administrator from Brooklyn Casey High School to attend the National Dropout Prevention Conference in New Orleans, Oct. 13–16, 2024, and approved two overnight boys-basketball tournament trips (Battery Creek Basketball Classic, Dec. 19–21, 2024, and a Carolina Forest Panther Classic in January 2025).

Following an executive session on personnel and student tuition waivers, the board voted in open session to accept administration’s recommendations for personnel appointments and resignations and to grant two out-of-district tuition waivers; each motion passed unanimously.

The board’s chair closed the meeting by announcing routine calendar items, including the next regular meeting on Sept. 19.
