Board approves presenting school-choice tuition waivers once per grade band

The Lexington County School District Two Board of Trustees voted to change how it reviews school-choice tuition waivers, accepting the administration’s recommendation to present waivers to the board once per grade band rather than every year.
Staff member Matt Ware told trustees the district currently brings waivers to the board annually and asked instead to present them once during elementary school, once during middle school and once during high school. "If they've been approved a waiver, what we're asking for is to bring those to you once during each grade band," Ware said, adding that waivers would remain in effect through the grade band so long as students continued to meet attendance, behavior and other expectations.
Vice chair Miss Linda made the motion to adopt the change and it was seconded and approved on a voice vote. Trustees did not raise additional conditions for the change at the time of the vote.
The administration said the revised schedule would reduce repetitive annual reviews while preserving board oversight at key transition points; the board did not set a separate effective date, and staff indicated they would return with waivers under the new cadence when applicable.
The motion carried by voice vote. The board proceeded to other agenda items.
