Lower Makefield Historical Commission approves May minutes and unanimously agrees to widen Slate Hill path

Minutes approval: The commission reviewed the May 2026 minutes. Tom moved to approve the minutes and Joe seconded; the motion passed by voice vote with all in favor, and the Chair declared the minutes approved.
Path widening and accessibility: The commission then considered a proposal to widen the Slate Hill path to 36 inches to improve stroller and wheelchair access. Helen moved to approve the work and the additional expenditure of approximately $1,100; the motion was seconded and commissioners discussed related repairs to uneven sections and future signage to improve accessibility. The Chair confirmed that widening to 36 inches addresses part of ADA guidance but that some site features ("The Rock") limit full accessibility; the motion passed unanimously.
Other business: Commissioners discussed possibly canceling the August meeting due to expected low attendance and agreed to revisit the decision at the July meeting. The commission also reviewed items in the Certified Local Government (CLG) review report that bear on the commission’s role — including recommended updates to ordinances and bylaws — and decided to keep the item on future agendas while awaiting direction from the Board of Supervisors.
