Stormwater committee sets data and site-visit tasks to inform code changes

During its Aug. 27 meeting, the Town of Emerald Isle Stormwater Committee agreed on a set of action items to gather evidence and inform potential code revisions.
Committee members directed staff to prepare GIS maps showing vacant lots, flood zones and redevelopment areas to clarify where changes in drainage and development pressures are concentrated. They also asked staff to research minutes from earlier stormwater committee meetings to collect historical context and prior decisions.
The group scheduled site visits for committee members at the next one to two meetings so members can inspect drainage conditions in person. The committee agreed to move the October meeting to Oct. 15 and the November meeting to Nov. 21 to accommodate the site visits and additional review.
Members also asked staff to consider adding a requirement for foundation surveys following land clearing to detect early encroachments on drainage easements or setbacks. No formal motion or vote was recorded; these items are study and information-gathering tasks directed to staff.
