Fairview council adopts 2012-13 budget, keeps $60,000 for public safety; approves auditor and renews fire contract

Chief McBryde explained the fire department's budget process with Union County and said a town contract would clarify what the department would receive. The town attorney recommended keeping the budget decision separate from any contract.
Bradley Purser moved to adopt the proposed 2012-13 budget leaving $60,000 in the Public Safety and Fire Protection line item and to change the line item name to "Public Safety." B.B. Haigler seconded, and the motion carried 3-1 with Councilman Clontz voting no.
The council also approved hiring Moyer, Smith and Roller to conduct the 2011-12 audit at the prior audit price of $6,200 (motion by Jerry Clontz; seconded by Arnold Price), vote 4-0. Separately, the council voted 4-0 to renew the town's fire suppression contract with Fairview Fire and Rescue and to add monthly contract payments of $2,500 (totaling $30,000 annually). Hal Weil, president of the Fire Department Board of Directors, spoke in support of the contract renewal.
Council recorded these actions in the meeting minutes; the town attorney's recommendation to treat budget adoption and contract approval as separate items was noted during deliberations.
