Flat Rock council appoints incoming village attorney contingent on contract terms

The Village of Flat Rock council voted Feb. 12 to approve the appointment of Brian Gulden of the Van Winkle Law Firm as the village’s incoming attorney, contingent upon acceptable contract terms.
Mayor Anne G. Coletta moved for approval and Council Member Bass seconded the motion. The council approved the appointment unanimously. Mayor Coletta stated Attorney Sharon Alexander will retire at the end of June 2026 and that Gulden is expected to be the attorney for issues arising after May 1, 2026; Alexander will continue working on existing matters through the transition.
Council did not vote on a final contract at the meeting; the appointment is contingent on executing acceptable contract terms with Van Winkle Law Firm. Staff will work with legal counsel and the mayor’s office to finalize terms and return to council if required by procurement or contract rules.
The council took no additional personnel actions during the meeting.
