Aldermen approve Sanders development plan (Promised Land Zoo) after expedited request

The Board of Aldermen approved the final plan development for the property known as the Sanders development, which will operate in conjunction with the Promised Land Zoo. Staff reported that the final plan mirrored the preliminary plan previously reviewed by the board and the Planning Commission, and staff recommended approval.
Applicant Noah Sanders spoke in support of the plan and asked the board to allow a double reading so construction and site work could begin sooner. After discussion about prior public hearings and the fact the Planning Commission had recommended approval, the board first voted to allow a second reading (motion carried 5–1 on roll call). The board then conducted the second and final reading and approved the ordinance on final roll call 6–0.
Staff noted the project is zoned community commercial and includes three parcels: commercial agritainment, caretaker quarters and high‑density residential to support ongoing zoo operations. The owner indicated readiness to begin work immediately if the double reading were permitted. The board recorded a final reading of bill 66‑59 and adopted the ordinance.
Authorities and next steps: the ordinance approving the final plan development (bill 66‑59) was adopted; staff will complete any remaining permitting and inspections to enable the applicant to begin site work.
