Branson board approves 250th logo transfer despite alderman’s objections to the included style guide; new city flag adopted

The Board of Aldermen voted to accept ownership of a 250th‑anniversary logo trademark and license its use to the Branson Lakes Area Tourism Community Enhancement District, but not before a substantive debate over the agreement’s style guide.

City attorney Sollin and the mayor said the transfer formalizes ownership and allows the TCED to continue using the logo under a license while the city holds the trademark. Sollin told the board staff and outside counsel had reviewed the agreement and recommended it. "The parties are in agreement," he said during the discussion.

Alderman Glenn (who spoke at length) objected that the style guide attached to the contract was written for a different logo and did not prescribe the correct colors or usage rules for the 250th mark; he said the document would not protect or prescribe the city’s brand use as expected. The mayor and the sponsor said the textual terms in the contract would accommodate the 250th artwork and that staff could amend the style guide if necessary. After discussion, the board approved the trademark agreement 5–1.

Separately, the board adopted a resolution establishing an official city flag that uses a patriotic version of the Branson label. The flag resolution drew positive remarks from board members and from a resident who requested the city develop a formal care and maintenance plan for flags displayed on city property. The board asked city staff and community volunteers to follow up on flag maintenance.
