Waldo utility reports comply with WPDES limits; DNR recommends second well and tower

The Waldo Water & Sewer Utility Board reviewed its June operations and lab report on Aug. 11 and was told that all effluent parameters met permit limits and that phosphorus remained below the limits set in the village's WPDES permit. OIC Bruce Neerhof reported the village submitted its annual Operational Evaluation Report for phosphorus and is awaiting a response from the Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR’s sanitary inspection was summarized to the board as finding the village water system in good standing, but the agency recommended the board consider adding a second well and a second water tower to increase redundancy. Clerk/Treasurer Lisa Gillette presented the DNR finding to the board during the meeting.
Board members heard additional operational updates: sampling for annual drinking-water requirements is complete, a pressure tank installation is finished, and DPW staffer Mike Kitzerow repaired a broken cross on the sand-filter distribution system. Neerhof also noted that Great Lakes is pursuing a DOT permit related to a Highway 57 manhole repair.
The board did not take formal action on the DNR recommendations at the meeting; members recorded the report and continued routine oversight. The board will await the DNR’s written response to the phosphorus evaluation before taking further steps.
