The selectboard voted to authorize $3,804.80 to repair the town grader after highway staff described recurring engine and valve problems and a defective replacement part. "So, ultimately, you need approval for $3,804.80," the Chair said during the presentation of the repair estimate. The chair also noted that the line item has funds available to cover the cost.
Highway staff and a mechanic described attempts to diagnose an EGR/solenoid issue that intermittently put the grader into fault codes. One staff member said the replacement solenoid appeared "very old" and that new units can be hit or miss; technicians had connected diagnostic computers and reported calibration and ECU codes. Staff cautioned that some work already performed is included in the estimate.
Committee member (Speaker 6) moved to spend the amount to complete repairs and a colleague seconded the motion; the board then voted in favor. The Chair said the repair would be done and staff would follow up with parts vendors and, if needed, contact a parts specialist.
The selectboard recorded no additional conditions when approving the repair. Next steps are for highway staff to schedule the work and report back to the board on completion and any warranty or parts‑track concerns.
