Maysville officials review water line change and sewer maintenance needs

The Maysville Board of Aldermen discussed recent changes to the city’s water supply and several public-works maintenance items at its May 11 meeting.
John Miller, a city staff member, reported the city began taking water from the GNWWW line on May 1, 2026. Miller said the board should consider a backup source and that the City Clerk would contact the Department of Natural Resources to arrange a meeting to discuss future water plans. Miller also said he would check on the status of the bulk water machine, which board members noted may be operating differently now that the water plant is not staffed continuously.
Miller outlined work completed since the last meeting: jetting sewers, preparing Grant Street for concrete, mowing, lift‑station repairs and placing gravel around lift stations. He told the board that Murphy Tractor would visit Thursday to discuss equipment‑leasing options.
On infrastructure concerns, Miller raised a possible need to replace a sewer main on West Main Street. He also reported a leaking meter on North Sloan Street and said the property owner needs to replace the service line from the house to the meter; the board directed the City Clerk to send a letter requesting that the owner make repairs to stop the leak.
The board did not vote on any capital projects at the meeting; officials asked staff to pursue more information from the DNR and to return recommendations to the board for further action.
