Maysville to begin drawing from new water line next week; full plant decommissioning delayed

Maysville officials said the city expects to start pulling water from a new line the week of April 20 as crews test system pressure and disinfectant levels.
Stephanie Ayres reported the plant "is running as it should" and that "Cameron should start pulling water this week," which would allow the town to transition to the new line. Paul Rinehart, General Manager of Alliance, who is managing the GNWWW, asked that officials "not decommission our entire plant for a little bit to make sure we are going to have pressure and our CL2 is good." City Attorney TH Bosler reminded the board that the town has 120 days to provide decommissioning plans to the Department of Natural Resources.
The board discussed draining mixing basins and the possibility of removing them in the future but did not take a formal vote at the meeting. No schedule for formal decommissioning was adopted at the April 13 session; staff and managing contractors will continue operational testing before any decommissioning actions are filed with regulators.
