Warrens board orders follow-up and contractor mowing after safety, fire concerns at two properties

The Village of Warrens Board of Trustees directed the village office to send formal enforcement notices and arranged immediate remediation after safety concerns and a fire response at two properties discussed at the Aug. 12 meeting.
Trustees reviewed a fire response to the Genske property at 208 Hayes Street and noted prior, unresolved violations of Ordinance No. 5.07 (Outdoor and Refuse Burning) and Ordinance No. 5.06 (Beautification). The Board discussed options including citation, fines, compliance deadlines and referral to legal counsel. Board members emphasized careful consideration before enforcement action.
Separately, property maintenance complaints at 542–550 Yogi Circle (garbage, debris, uncut grass, damaged deck and a vehicle parked on village property) prompted the Board to approve a follow-up notice and direct the contracted mower be sent to the property. The motion (A. Werner moved; T. Swope seconded) carried 7-0. Meeting minutes record that the property owner was given until Monday, Aug. 18 to address violations; when no corrective action occurred the Village contracted and completed the mowing.
The Board noted Monroe County Health Department had been consulted and can provide guidance but indicated the Village must act under its Beautification Ordinance to enforce compliance. The minutes reflect the Board’s direction to pursue formal notice and other enforcement avenues as appropriate.
