Elkin board reviews Perkins-aligned CTE local plan and highlights credential gains

District career and technical education staff presented the biennial Perkins V local plan and local needs assessment to the board, noting multiple program gains and next-year goals.
Presenters described required performance indicators (graduation and concentrator proficiency metrics), highlighted that program-quality scores were about 92.97 (above benchmark), and said post-secondary credential attainment rose sharply (benchmarked at 25.12%; actual noted at 69%). Staff also reported 34 students completed pre-apprenticeships and 19 students served as interns this year.
CTE staff said JROTC will fall under the CTE pathway beginning in 2025–26 and that JROTC levels may allow students to become concentrators for CTE metrics. Staff discussed strategies to raise 2S2 math proficiency among concentrators and to expand CTSO participation, and they presented options to either continue using an expensive MajorClarity subscription ($5,000) or to consider lower-cost alternatives.
Board members thanked staff and voted to approve the local plan (recorded as an action). Staff will continue work on targeted strategies for math proficiency and on maintaining high program-quality measures.
