NJDOE pauses collection of new SGOs for tenured teachers; staff will roll over 2023–24 scores

A Staff member told the committee that on May 22 the New Jersey Department of Education issued a temporary pause in the collection of new Student Growth Objectives (SGOs) for tenured teachers for the 2024–25 school year. “The SGO scores will be from the 23–24 school year into this year,” the Staff member said, adding that whatever score a tenured teacher received last year will roll over for this school year.
The Staff member said teachers who must still create SGOs this year include teachers in their first year of employment, teachers without a record of a preexisting SGO, and all non‑tenure teachers. The district has posted the NJDOE FAQ and bulletin materials for review and plans to release a memo to staff the last week of August explaining evaluation implications.
When asked whether a tenured staff member dissatisfied with a rolled-over SGO score could seek reevaluation, a committee member referenced the NJDOE FAQ and staff said that the FAQ indicates they would not be eligible to retry the measure this year.
The district will provide additional guidance to staff as more information is available from NJDOE.
