Committee moves several curriculum‑cycle changes toward board consent, flags K–5 naming and links

Adrian Schneider, the district program administrator, briefed the Curriculum Committee on July 7 about recommended modifications to the district curriculum cycle and several grade‑band resource items that staff intend to forward to the full board for consent.
Schneider described four principal changes from the March proposal: PHYAD (K–12 physical/adaptive) should remain in develop/design phase 2a with a planned August meeting; 5th grade will join the elementary schools as part of building reconfiguration; k–5 music and 6–12 orchestra will proceed on different timelines so the K–5 music team can move into implementation year 1 of phase 3 while other music work remains in phase 2; and art will advance into implementation phase 3. For 6–12 social studies, staff recommended more time in the evaluate stage before proceeding.
On K–5 curriculum materials, committee members pointed out naming inconsistencies (unit titles that differ between overview and unit pages), missing formative assessment entries labeled "TBD," and a Google Drive link on a fifth‑grade science page that required access permissions. Schneider and staff said the gaps are due to time constraints during the prior year and will be completed by teachers and PLCs during the coming school year. The district also noted a recent ELA resource purchase for grades 6–10 that teachers will review in the coming year.
Regarding music resources, Schneider said K–5 Quaver and 6–12 Habits of a Successful String Musician were posted for public viewing June 3–16 and produced no public feedback; staff recommended moving those resources to the board for discussion.
The committee expressed general support and no objections to forwarding the recommended cycle changes to the board as consent items; staff will bring finalized documents and any corrected links back to the committee for further review if needed.
