Pike Road council hears planning and road updates, schedules Comp Plan special meeting and introduces two new staff

The Town of Pike Road council received planning and engineering updates and set a special meeting on the Comp Plan at its Jan. 12 session.

Darrell Rigsby, the town’s senior planner, told the council the Planning Commission had approved two plats and two conditional use permits the previous week; Rigsby said the two conditional use permits will be forwarded to the Town Council at a later meeting. He announced a Special Called Meeting on the Comprehensive Plan for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at 7 p.m. Council members discussed scheduling a council work session before that meeting to review the proposed changes.

Town Engineer Brad Flowers briefed the council on ongoing and upcoming paving and infrastructure projects, including work on several roundabouts (Waugh; Pike/Wallahatchie/Meriwether), the Marler/Vaughn project with ALDOT, Marler resurfacing by the county and Trotman Road resurfacing by the county. Mayor Stone said the remaining curbing and signage at the Wallahatchie roundabout should be completed in the next few weeks.

Mayor Stone introduced two staff who began work that day: Col. Jon Briggs, who will assist with the Best Practices for Business program, and Vince Hodges, identified in the minutes as the new Communications Director and Special Projects Manager and formerly with WSFA. Councilwoman Mim Whatley raised concerns about the condition of some businesses, citing trash and display racks at a Dollar General parking lot; Mayor Stone and the minutes said Briggs will address the issue as part of his duties.

Mayor Stone also outlined councilmembers’ additional liaison responsibilities to town initiatives, including education, recreation and volunteer fire department liaison duties. The meeting adjourned at 6:56 p.m.
