Fletcher schedules May 11 public hearing on proposed 150-unit Birkshire Trace affordable housing project

Mayor Preston Blakely told the Local Government Committee for Cooperative Action on April 21 that the Town of Fletcher will hold a public hearing on May 11 on a rezoning application (SUP Birkshire Trace) for a proposed affordable housing project of 150 multi-family units.
Blakely said Fletcher is reviewing its FY 2026/2027 budget with modest revenue growth but rising expenses; he reported the town approved a 1.5‑cent rate increase for Fletcher Fire & Rescue. He also said town staff propose adding language to the Land Development Ordinance to limit data center development and that the council passed a resolution opposing state legislation that would limit local property tax authority.
The May 11 public hearing is the next formal step for the Birkshire Trace rezoning application; Blakely did not provide detailed site plans, unit sizes, housing affordability metrics or a construction timeline at the LGCCA meeting. Those details will be available at the public hearing and through the Town of Fletcher’s permitting process.
