Senior Planner Darrell Rigsby told the council the Planning Commission last week approved two plats and two conditional use permits; the two conditional use permits will be forwarded to the town council at a later meeting. Rigsby said a Special Called Meeting on the Comprehensive Plan is set for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM, and the council agreed to schedule a council work session to review changes before that meeting.
Town Engineer Brad Flowers provided an overview of current and planned road and infrastructure projects, including multiple paving projects, the Waugh roundabouts, the Marler/Vaughn ALDOT project, the Pike/Wallahatchie/Meriwether roundabout, Marler resurfacing by the county, and Trotman Road resurfacing by the county. Flowers and councilmembers discussed final components of the Wallahatchie roundabout (curbing and signage) and traffic-flow considerations related to the Merry Corners project near Baptist Health; the mayor said the remaining Wallahatchie work should be completed in the next few weeks.
The council did not vote on any of these projects at this meeting; updates were informational and staff indicated some items require coordination with ALDOT and county crews.
