Tyler Bumen and Jacob Hagan of AgriVia described a digitizing project that would place every county-controlled drainage facility on a computerized map. They estimated the mapping cost at about $20,000 — roughly $200 to $300 per drainage district — and said the map would help locate trees that are encroaching on drainage tiles. AgriVia also proposed a tree-spraying preventive maintenance program for open ditches on a three-year cycle to prevent small trees from becoming larger problems.
AgriVia will prepare a bid package that lists individual districts and lengths and will draft a report linking mapped features to proposed tree-clearing work; staff noted the work must be coordinated with landowners. The board authorized AgriVia to develop the mapping, the spraying bid package, and the tree-clearing report by unanimous motion.
