City staff report setbacks in hiring human-resources manager; recruiting continues

City staff told the Ways & Means committee that several candidates who had accepted offers for the human-resources manager role later rescinded, forcing the city to continue recruiting from scratch.
"We have had maybe a 3rd, maybe a 4th person accept the position to then rescind their acceptance," Douglas, a city staff member, said. Staff described that candidates were sometimes leaving for higher pay or more remote-work flexibility; the city is continuing to interview additional candidates brought forward by the recruiting firm.
The committee also heard that interim payroll responsibilities are being handled by staff members while recruitment continues. Members emphasized filling the position remains a priority and encouraged staff to continue the search; no personnel action was taken at the meeting.
