Henlopen Acres plans follow-up dune grass seeding and continues dune-fencing maintenance

At its June 14 annual meeting, the Henlopen Acres Property Owners Corporation reviewed dune restoration work on Block W and plans for continued fencing maintenance.
Board member Nathalie McGregor said she seeded a sample dune plot in April but that the grass struggled to establish despite additional watering and a wet spring. The minutes record recommended seeding technique: "make a trench 8-10" deep and fill it with potting soil before depositing seeds." The board plans a second sample plot in October and, if needed, to purchase and plant plugs in the next planting season.
Separately, the board reported that the dune-fencing project will continue with maintenance of existing perimeter fence and the dune-top sand-capturing fence. Shared fencing costs with the Henlopen Acres Beach Club (HABC) have reduced maintenance expense to about $8.75 per linear foot, roughly 17% lower than several years ago. Four-foot cedar posts replaced older posts this year, and openings were added on the beach side to allow cleanup access and a deer crossing.
No new funding measures were proposed at the meeting; the board described the fencing work as a continuing maintenance item.
