Miami R‑1 board approves coaching hires, accepts resignation and offers principal contract

The Miami R‑1 Board of Education on Feb. 18 unanimously approved a slate of personnel actions, including multiple coaching hires, accepted a staff resignation and voted to offer Zechariah Blaine a contract as elementary and high school principal and A+ director for the 2026–27 school year.
President Richie Powell called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board recorded a 6–0 vote on all motions reported in the minutes. Les Nieder moved the motions that carried most frequently, with Melanie Schaller typically seconding.
Among the personnel actions the board approved were Charlee Chambers as high school softball coach and Jessey Fairbairn as a volunteer high school softball coach for the 2025–26 school year. The board approved Ethan West as a volunteer assistant high school baseball coach for 2025–26 pending completion of required paperwork and named Nicole King as the 8th grade sponsor for the remainder of the 2025–26 year.
The board rescinded the junior high track coaching assignment held by Logan Smith and approved Zechariah Blaine as junior high track coach for 2025–26. Separately, by a unanimous vote the board approved an offer of employment to Zechariah Blaine for the 2026–27 school year as elementary and high school principal and A+ director.
Other actions included approving Shannon Crawford as spring trap coach, accepting the resignation of Rena Reitz and approving the 2026–27 school-year calendar. All recorded motions in the minutes show a 6–0 vote in favor.
