The Miami R‑1 Board of Education voted on several personnel and purchasing actions during its Dec. 17 regular meeting in the Miami R‑1 board room.
Board President Richie Powell called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m. The board approved a motion to change assistant coach Kayla Powell’s pay to $2,970.00 for the 2025–26 school year; the motion was moved and seconded and carried with a recorded tally of Yes 5, No 0, Abstained 1. The minutes provided the tally but did not identify which board member cast the abstention.
Also under new business the board approved Brooklyn Bogan-Johnson as a substitute for the 2025–26 school year, pending completion of all DESE documentation and a background check; that motion carried 7–0. The board subsequently approved Timmy Powell as a substitute, pending the same documentation; the minutes record that vote as Yes 6, No 0 (President Powell was briefly out of the room during one of these roll-call moments).
The board voted 7–0 to approve a lease purchase from Foley Equipment for a skid steer and attachments for a total purchase price of $84,522.81. At the same time the board moved the regular March BOE meeting to Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., and authorized Superintendent Daniel Johnson to approve payment of bills prior to that meeting; that scheduling motion passed 7–0.
Board members were given superintendent evaluation forms and approved a motion to complete those evaluations in January. Late in the meeting the board voted to adjourn to executive session for personnel matters pursuant to RSMo 610.021 (1), (3), (6) and (13); the minutes record a roll-call vote of Yes 5, No 0 and note that the board did not re-enter open session in the provided record.
The minutes list motions, tallies and the standard ‘‘pending DESE documentation and background check’’ condition for substitute hires. Where the minutes give only vote tallies without individual roll-call names, the minutes do not identify which member cast specific votes or the single recorded abstention.
