The Port Jefferson Board of Trustees on July 8 approved a resolution authorizing the village to apply for $876,300 in consolidated funding toward East Beach Bluff Stabilization Phase 2.
Clerk Perla read Resolution 17826 into the record. The measure, described by staff as a supplement to FEMA funds already awarded for the project, requires a local match. Treasurer Steven Gafka told the board the grant would not replace FEMA funding, but would be new money that could reduce the village’s 25% share. “Approximately $392,000,” Gafka said in response to a trustee’s question about savings, explaining how that figure changed the village’s projected out‑of‑pocket responsibility for the project.
Board members asked staff to confirm matching requirements and document how the grant money would integrate with the Village’s existing borrowing and FEMA reimbursements. Mayor Shepro said staff would produce supporting materials and signing authority was authorized for the mayor to execute required documents on behalf of the village.
The resolution passed by voice vote and the motion carried. Trustees recorded no amendments to the grant application at the meeting. The board asked staff to provide progress updates as the application advances through the review process.
