School leaders, new principal and community projects highlighted at Martinsville meeting

Matt announced Bill Wallace as the new Martinsville High School principal and said Kristen Bodine will take over as athletic director. He described the new elementary school—located just behind River Valley Christian Church—as nearing completion and said the district expects to break ground on a pool in August and will seek community involvement for that project.
When asked about plans for buildings that will be vacated when the new elementary opens, Matt said the district "is still looking at all alternatives" and is consulting the district attorney because state rules may limit transfers or sales (for example, rules that affect transfers to charter operators).
Separately, a Committee member said the Tony Hawk Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant toward the skate-park project and provided design assistance. The board said Matt Porter has drawings for the skate park and noted the grant will help advance design work.
What happens next: The district will pursue the superintendent search and continue planning for the elementary school and pool; the board and staff will track grant-funded park design work.
