Planners report mixed‑use rendering for former IDG site and progress on Walden Eco Village amid declining permit revenue

Danica Miller led the Planning and Building department’s presentation at the Feb. 10 joint meeting, describing a small core staff supplemented by a ConVal intern and the department’s work to support economic development through low-cost programming.
Miller highlighted the Peterborough Pet Gala as an example of low-cost EDA programming that drew visitors from nearby towns. She said property owners of the former IDG Building are reviewing a mixed-use rendering created by an architecture student that envisions mixed-income housing, artist studios and a community garden; no formal plans have yet been filed with the Planning Board.
Miller also reported progress on the Walden Eco Village project, noting stormwater treatment work and parking improvements are underway as the project moves toward delivering 17 residential units. She cautioned the department has seen a general decline in building permits and is projecting only $40,000 in building permit revenue for the coming year, down from $93,000 collected in FY25.
The department said it will continue to package low-cost strategies that other communities could replicate to drive downtown activity and to encourage greater volunteer participation in EDA efforts.
