Highway department reports heavy workload, equipment updates and budget items
Summary

County highway staff updated the committee on field operations, staffing and finances, saying crews are conducting chip-seal projects, pulverizing and paving County Road I, and installing culverts on County Road C.
"We should finish the southern part of our chip seal projects tomorrow... then we're gonna be moving up north," said Brent (speaker S6), who reported bridge washing/sealing is complete and that crews are cleaning storm damage and spray patching when weather allows.
Staff introduced Mike (speaker S8) as the new shop superintendent and said the county recently took delivery of a larger asphalt roller and returned a repaired grader to service. Mike reported fuel consumption figures: about 1,880 gallons of unleaded and 10,285 gallons of diesel.
In financial reporting, S2 presented a new BS&A report showing operating expenses, revenues, and a $3,000,000 bonded amount with a $737,000 carryover. He said the County Road E project came in nearly $300,000 over estimate due to higher asphalt quantities, and staff are proposing some scope and contracting changes for next year to balance maintenance needs and project workload.
The committee approved routine highway vouchers by voice vote and accepted the meeting minutes from 06/11/2026.
