A representative of Keep Douglas Beautiful told the Douglas City Mayor's Youth Council on April 21 that the group will hold a Great American Cleanup this Saturday and asked council members and other community volunteers to help with targeted neighborhood cleanups.
"We're gonna meet here at City Hall at about a quarter to 9, and we're going to two areas that have been identified via our community index," the representative said, describing how committee teams assess streets for trash, junk cars, overgrowth and illegal signs and then prioritize areas needing attention.
Volunteers should meet at City Hall around 8:45 a.m. for team assignments; the representative said crews plan to be on-site at about 9:00 a.m. and to wrap up a little before noon. The representative added that the fire department will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks as a thank-you for volunteers.
The speaker asked interested individuals and organizations — including churches, youth groups and residents — to join the effort; no funding details were provided. The cleanup is part of the community's regular street-assessment and beautification program.
