Commission approves work-session change orders for well repair, drainage and park improvements

Douglas City staff presented several infrastructure change orders and project approvals at the March 24 meeting; the commission moved each item forward and approved them on the consent agenda.
Well 6: Staff requested approval to repair and upgrade Well 6 (Hope Drive), estimating $115,000 to repair the well and increase capacity from about 850 gallons per minute to approximately 1,250 gallons per minute. Staff also sought authority to pay up to $3,500 per day for up to two days to remove an airline tool located 200 feet down the well. Commissioners indicated consent after questions about location and scope.
Drainage change order: Staff described a change order for drainage improvements to replace existing round pipe with cured‑in‑place/elliptical pipe lining and other repairs. The change order amount is $176,410 and staff said the cost will come from the capital improvement fund.
Park and apartment roof change order: A separate change order covering future picnic table installations, walking and bike trail work, directional signage and permanent grass around a park — and an associated apartment roof repair — was presented with a cost of $18,601.30, also to be covered by capital funds.
All three items were moved through the meeting’s consent process and approved by voice vote. Staff indicated mapping and additional technical details are in the meeting packet and that required follow‑up and site plans will be provided as work proceeds.
