Historic board recessed for lack of quorum; item referred to City Council meeting on July 27
Summary
The Historic Preservation Board recessed after failing to reach a quorum and staff said the agenda item will go to the City Council on July 27 for a final decision; board members were advised to contact their district councilmember if they wish to convey a recommendation.
The Historic Preservation Board convened at 12:05 p.m. but recessed after members confirmed there was no quorum, the board’s presiding officer said. The meeting did not take any formal votes.
The board’s Clerk advised that the agenda item in question will be moved to the City Council meeting on July 27, saying, “the item will be moving to the city council meeting of July 27. At that time, the council will make the decision on the case. They can make a decision to approve, to deny, however they see fit.”
Board members and staff conducted a roll call to record attendance; the Clerk read a list of board members associated with the seat roster. After the roll call the Clerk stated there was not a quorum and the meeting would not proceed with decision-making.
A Committee member asked whether the council accepts recommendations from the historic board. The Clerk answered that residents and board representatives may speak to their district council member and to city council to convey how they feel about the case.
Because no formal motion or vote was made at the historic board meeting, the City Council’s deliberation on July 27 will determine whether the case is approved, denied or returned to the historic board for further action. The historic board recorded the lack of quorum in the minutes and closed without taking action.
