"The popularity of vacation comes and homeowners offering their homes the vacation rentals really grew quickly," Craig Spencer said, describing why the county revised older rules. He credited extended community engagement led in part by county planners for shaping the updates.
Spencer said staff worked with community members to address neighborhood concerns such as noise, parking and unit density, while recognizing tourism's role as the county's second-largest industry. "How can we minimize their impact on those neighborhoods and the people that live within them while still providing the opportunity for people to come and stay and visit our beautiful area?" he asked.
County staff said they are approving vacation rentals under the updated regulations and will continue to review and tweak rules as needed. Officials did not provide quantitative limits, permit counts or enforcement details at the briefing.
