Gates County Community Partnership receives North Carolina governor's volunteer service award

Benjamin Saunders, speaking for GCCP and its board of directors, accepted the award "on behalf of the board of directors of Gates County Community Partnership" and thanked Governor Josh Stein and the state for the recognition. Saunders described GCCP as a completely volunteer‑driven organization since its founding in 2018 and highlighted several initiatives: partnership with Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and the Saunders Science Scholars program; donated technology through the Access initiative (approximately 200 computers and Internet hotspots for students); scholarships, camps, mentoring programs and a travel basketball program for youth. "We are deeply humbled by this recognition," Saunders said.
Commissioners praised the group's work, with several affirmations from the board and congratulations recorded in the meeting. The board presented the certificate and the community members expressed continued commitment to the county's youth and education partnerships.
