The proclamation directs that the Gates County Public Library "shall henceforth be named in her honor" and that a copy of the proclamation be presented to her family.
Speakers described Ms. Brown Familar as a beloved local figure who inspired generations through storytelling, summer reading programs and long service to the library. Chair Truman and other commissioners discussed preserving her familiar title on site, with plans mentioned to add a small sign reading "Miss Pat" near the library entrance in addition to the formal name used in the proclamation.
The board moved and seconded the proclamation and approved it by unanimous vote.
