The Planning Commission on June 16 voted to find the proposed Capital Improvement Project CIP-26-2 — an expansion and renovation of the AFC — consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan.
Staff described the project as roughly 31,000 square feet of new construction and renovations, including a 4,000-square-foot fitness room with stretching and aerobics space, expanded men’s and women’s locker rooms, new boys’ and girls’ locker rooms, a new gym, and dedicated spaces for youth and outdoor fitness activities. "This expansion and renovation of the AFC is approximately 31,000 square feet of new construction and renovations," staff said.
Staff advised the commission that the project aligns with comprehensive-plan Goal 2.3, which calls for an adequate system of recreational facilities to support a wide variety of active and passive leisure pursuits, and Goal 2.2, focused on expanding community facilities and programming. A commissioner moved that the commission adopt the staff report and find CIP-26-2 consistent with the comprehensive plan. The motion received a second and passed by voice vote; commissioners recorded no public comments on the item.
The finding of consistency allows the project to proceed through subsequent design and permitting steps governed by other city review processes. Staff did not detail funding sources for construction at the meeting.
