North Charleston council approves rezoning and zoning amendments, adopts shopping-cart ordinance; several items passed by voice vote

The North Charleston City Council voted on several routine land-use and code items and heard updates from staff and developers.

The council approved an ordinance rezoning a parcel at 1935 Burton Lane (Charleston County, TMS 4660300092) from R-1 (single-family) to R-2 (multifamily). The motion to approve was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with ayes recorded.

The council also adopted amendments to the city zoning code (amending sections 7-7-2 and 7-8 and adding section 7-9) to clarify procedures for zoning map and text amendments and to establish a plan and zoning department fee. That ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Separately, the council adopted an ordinance amending section 9-7-1 of the city code to regulate nuisance shopping carts. A council member thanked Dave Chidom for his work on that ordinance before it was approved by voice vote.
