Michiana advances water and stormwater work: drywells, hydrant flushing and pump installation planned

Village officials reported progress on water and stormwater projects at the Oct. 11 meeting. Street Superintendent Rick Reitz said two additional drywells were installed on Long Lake Shore Drive (near Stops 38 and 39), bringing this year’s total to four budgeted drywells. Rick also reported crews cleared branches and are installing cable wiring to extend Wi‑Fi from the street garage to the police side to support vendors and residents at the basketball area and pavilion; leaf pickup will start at month‑end.
Council member Mike Mumper provided the principal water update: monthly reports have been sent to EGLE and daily water testing is being conducted by staff. The crew will be flushing hydrants over the next couple of weeks. Merritt is preparing a Project Plan that must be submitted to the EPA for approval; once approved, staff will prepare bidding documents. A new pump is ready; Rick said he plans to install it in November and will temporarily run the system on a single pump during installation to minimize resident impact.
