Michiana council approves new 3-year auditing contract, facility fees and routine expenditures

The Village of Michiana Council on July 12 approved several administrative motions, including a three-year auditing contract with Siegfried Crandall and a slate of routine financial actions.
Tim McCarthy, a council member, moved to contract with Siegfried Crandall for municipal auditing services under a three-year agreement priced at $12,000 per year; Nancy Thill seconded the motion. The contract includes an option allowing the Village to terminate after the first year’s audit if it is not satisfied. A roll call vote recorded four ayes and zero nays, and the motion passed.
The council also approved routine governance items. Tim McCarthy moved and Nancy Thill seconded approval of minutes from multiple June and July meetings; that motion passed. Treasurer Tracey McCay presented a report showing a Pokagon Fund balance of $43,329 and noted two certificates of deposit maturing in September. McCarthy moved to accept the treasurer’s report; Mike Mumper seconded and the motion passed.
Clerk Anne Heywood presented a check register totaling $117,647.67. Tim McCarthy moved to approve the register, Brian Cassidy seconded, and the council approved the payment list.
On facility fees, McCarthy moved to set the new pavilion rental at $100, village-hall rental for residents at $300 and for non-residents at $400; the deposit was increased from $300 to $500 (refundable if no damage). Nancy Thill seconded and the motion passed; council members said fees may be revisited after the Village Hall renovation is complete.
The council authorized immediate maintenance on the pickleball courts. Karen Harty presented a $4,300 Seal Coating quote (one-year guarantee) to repair cracks; Council member Brian Cassidy moved to approve repairs up to $5,000, contingent on Tim McCarthy’s review and scheduling around the Day Camp; Nancy Thill seconded and the motion passed. Harty said the Pickleball Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 6–8 and a July 24 give-back night at Zorn’s brewery will raise funds for court work.
The meeting closed with routine correspondence noted as none and public comment recorded; no additional formal financial actions were taken.
