Pepper Pike to seek NatureWorks grant for splash pad; council discusses park master plan and bench sponsorships

At its June 17 meeting Pepper Pike council previewed a request authorizing staff to apply for an Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) NatureWorks grant to fund a modest splash pad in a city park.
The chair said the agenda item next week will ask council only for permission to submit a grant application, not for authority to buy the splash pad. A rendering and proposal will be circulated to council before the vote; council members noted the project had appeared in prior planning (a previous estimate of about $102,000 was mentioned from earlier work). The ODNR grant requires legislative support in the form of a council resolution as part of the application.
Council also discussed broader park planning, including possible master-plan work by consultant MKSK to assess other park features, and the existing small park footprint (roughly two acres) that will constrain options. Members asked staff to consider park uses and how a splash pad might fit with future design work.
Separately, the meeting covered a bench order (five benches placed on order) and the possibility of public sponsorships for benches or trees, including small donor plaques; council asked staff to publish bench-sponsorship costs and a process for first-come, first-served sponsorships.
