Centre County proclaims July 2026 “Roland Curtin Foundation and Curtin Village Month”

The Centre County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted Proclamation 36 of 2026 on June 25, declaring July 2026 as “The Roland Curtin Foundation and Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village Month” in Centre County. The proclamation was presented by guests Renea Nichols, Sue Hannegan, Philip Ruth and Karen Mozley Bryan.
Sue Hannegan told the Board that an ownership celebration will be held June 28 after more than six years of effort and that Curtin Village comprises approximately 10.2 acres with 19 buildings. Philip Ruth said a July 12 program titled “Echoes of Revolutionary War” will run from 1–4 p.m. and will focus on five men who lived at or near Curtin Village and served in the Revolutionary War; a train tour between Bellefonte and Curtin Village will also be available. Renea Nichols described Irish dancers, music and food scheduled for the event and said the various programs at Curtin Village are open to the public.
The Board thanked the group for the presentation and adopted the proclamation on a motion by Commissioner Amber Concepcion, seconded by Commissioner Steven Dershem. The adoption was unanimous.
Next steps: the presenters encouraged public attendance at the June 28 celebration and the July 12 program; event organizers will proceed with the planned public programming.
