Selectmen outline access plan for highway property and estimate $350,000 sand-and-salt shed

Selectman David Kelly reported Feb. 2 that the Selectmen intend to obtain access to the highway department property in 2026, estimating the work at roughly $80,000, and estimated the cost of a sand-and-salt shed at about $350,000.
Kelly said a wetlands permit application has been submitted to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and the Selectmen plan to seek a bond next year to fund the shed and associated building work. Kelly said the Selectmen will hold work sessions to develop plans and costs; Brett Walker said the Selectmen’s initial idea is to divide the project into separate bids for each element rather than issuing one contract for the whole project.
Chair Marcia Murphy asked whether the project would go out to bid as a whole; Walker and Kelly described an approach that would separate bidding for distinct aspects of the build. Kelly said there is not yet an estimate for the full building beyond the sand-and-salt shed figure and that more detailed cost estimates will be developed during forthcoming work sessions.
The minutes record the wetlands permit submission and the Selectmen’s intent to explore bonding and bidding strategies; no formal votes on the highway property or shed funding were recorded at the Feb. 2 Budget Committee meeting.
