Wells council discusses road repairs, chip-seal options and potential equipment purchases

The Wells Town Council spent part of its July 7 meeting discussing road maintenance priorities, equipment options and short-term fixes.
Council members described deteriorated chip-seal sections and localized potholes that make some roads muddy and make garbage trucks and other vehicles vulnerable to getting stuck. Suggestions included targeted chip-seal or asphalt patches where money is available and running a grader to smooth stretches of road to improve drainage and mowing access.
Members also discussed equipment: a local resident, Andrew Anderson, offered a used brush hog for possible purchase; council members agreed to inspect the machine before committing. Staff noted the town's existing brush hog is old and poses safety risks, and agreed to delay a final purchase decision by about a month while they examine the offered unit and other options already budgeted.
Council members said they would consider contracting smaller, local contractors for partial jobs where feasible to stretch available funds.
