Two June 19 fires reported; Boscawen Fire Department notes staffing changes

Kenney reported the first fire at about 6:41 p.m. at 4 Bailey Drive that resulted in a total loss of the home; there were no reported injuries to people but a dog was lost. The second fire occurred about 11:11 p.m. at the Smoke Shack and caused significant kitchen damage, putting that kitchen out of service. Kenney said Boscawen’s Fire Department had a strong response and that Concord Fire arrived first on scene in at least one instance.
He also reported preventive maintenance: two fire engines recently underwent maintenance with expected costs around $5,000. Kenney said two department members have left because they no longer meet availability requirements; the department currently has 20 members and a maximum capacity of 26.
Selectwoman Carey noted positive feedback from the Smoke Shack owners about first responders. Chief Kenney said he is preparing a report on fires in Boscawen since 2019 to track activity and expects to provide that at the next meeting.
