The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Garber as vice-chairman for a one-year term and confirmed the board’s 2026 committee assignments at an organizational meeting on Jan. 7, 2026, in the Commissioner Chambers at the Surbeck Building in Corunna.
Chairman Brodeur called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., led the Pledge of Allegiance and took roll call; Commissioners Holzhausen, Johnson, Garber, Howard and Chairman Brodeur were recorded present, Commissioner Haley was excused and Commissioner Shepard was absent at the start of the meeting. Chairman Brodeur opened the floor for nominations for the one-year vice-chairman term; "Commissioner Johnson nominated Commissioner Garber," and with no further nominations the roll call vote passed with five yeas and zero nays. The five recorded yes votes were Commissioners Holzhausen, Johnson, Garber, Howard and Chairman Brodeur, and Commissioner Garber was declared the 2026 Vice-Chairman.
Following the election, Chairman Brodeur presented and confirmed the board’s list of 2026 committee and subcommittee appointments. The confirmed subcommittee leadership and membership for 2026 are: Economic & Development — Chair: Commissioner Howard; Vice-Chair: Commissioner Holzhausen; Member: Commissioner Haley. Finance & Administration — Chair: Commissioner Garber; Vice-Chair: Commissioner Howard; Member: Commissioner Johnson. Public Safety & Courts — Chair: Commissioner Haley; Vice-Chair: Commissioner Howard; Member: Commissioner Garber. Health & Human Services — Chair: Commissioner Garber; Vice-Chair: Commissioner Haley; Member: Commissioner Holzhausen. The record does not show a separate roll-call vote on the committee list; the minutes state Chairman Brodeur "confirmed the 2026 sub-committee appointments."
Chairman Brodeur offered the floor for public comment; none was received. Commissioner Shepard arrived at 5:02 p.m., and the meeting adjourned at 5:02 p.m. The minutes were signed by Caroline D. Wilson, Shiawassee County Clerk and Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.
