The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners voted July 9 to approve Resolution R2026060, a conditional use permit to establish a public use fire station on two combined lots in Soldier Township, Land Use & Development Director Joanie Thadani said.
Thadani told the commission the site comprises two parcels each just over nine acres, and the proposed station would operate 24 hours with six personnel per shift and house multiple emergency response vehicles. The planning commission recommended approval by a 5–0 vote and staff recommended approval subject to final plats being recorded prior to development. Thadani said 24 letters were mailed to property owners within 1,000 feet and the county received no responses.
Commissioner Kevin Cook moved to open the public hearing; no one spoke in favor or opposition. Commissioner Aaron Mays moved to approve the resolution, Commissioner Cook seconded, and the commission approved the CUP 2–0.
Thadani noted replat and final‑plat recording are required before development begins and that coordination with the City of Topeka on platting is occurring where applicable.
